St. Paul Island wildflowers - June 2014 trip

Home

St. Paul Island in summer is said to be covered by blue, red and yellow wildflowers, quite the sight for sore eyes. Well, I guess I missed that spectacular scenery. When visiting in mid June 2014 (June 14-18), some wildflowers were indeed blooming, particularly the lupins, and the meadows were getting green. Also common were Arctic Poppy and lousewort species. In retrospect, I regret not paying more attention to the Arctic-alpine local plants on St. Paul (the main focus of the visit was bird photography).

Some plants encountered on St. Paul are shown below. Most species have been verified by iNaturalist experts. However, as an amateur naturalist, some species may have been given wrong names.

A few June-blooming mainland Alaska wildflowers can be seen here.
